What is Ev4sio.Physics?

Although in recent times significant efforts have been made by the Unity team to provide better access to PhysX, this tool provides additional features:

  • PhysX Visual Debugger. You can link the third party tool provided by NVIDIA to Unity.
  • Advanced collision detection. You can modify or even reject contact points before they are used by the constraint solver.
  • Vehicles. You have access to different types of vehicles with 4 to 20 wheels, with various engine modes and scene query sweeps for the detection of the wheel collisions.

Moreover, in getting as close as possible to the architecture of PhysX, it can more easily evolve and integrate improvements made to the native library.

Gameplay elements are also present. They illustrate how you can combine new components and fully exploit the features of this asset.

  • Character controller with first/third person cameras. You can grab objects or get into vehicles.
  • Gravity gun. It shows how you can detect nearby objects and act on them.
  • The vehicles have an automatic gearbox which makes driving very simple.
  • To show the benefit of being able to modify the contact points, vehicle wheels can sink into the ground. Tire deformation is also managed. It is currently done without the use of a shader, but directly on the mesh of the wheels.

Helper components:

  • A user-friendly state machine system, widely used in gameplay components, such as the gravity gun or the automatic gearbox of the vehicles.
  • Singletons (MonoBehaviour and ScriptableObject types).
  • Virtual inputs (button and joystick) for mobile platforms.

Who is it for?

This asset was designed for users who want to take the physics of their game a step further.

Notes:

  • This asset uses NVIDIA PhysX SDK 4.1.2 under BSD-3 license; see Third-Party Notices.txt file in package for details.
  • Supports Windows (x86 & x86_64), Mac OS X (x86_64), Linux (x86_64), iOS (ARM64), and Android (ARMv7 & ARM64) platforms.
